Ukraine Grain Production Raise

The Ministry of Agrarian Policy and Food of Ukraine has adjusted its projections for the overall grain production, raising the figure to 59.7 million tonnes, while maintaining a stable outlook for oilseeds production at 21.6 million tonnes.

Consequently, the combined forecast for total grain and oilseeds production in 2023 has increased to 81.3 million tonnes, marking a rise from the October estimate of 79.1 million tonnes, according to the press service of the Ministry of Agrarian Policy on December 8.

Preliminary estimates indicate that Ukraine is poised to harvest 22.2 million tonnes of wheat, 5.8 million tonnes of barley, and 30.1 million tonnes of corn in 2023. Regarding oilseeds, the sunflower seed harvest is projected to remain at 13 million tonnes, while soybeans are expected to reach 4.6 million tonnes.

The harvesting of rapeseed has concluded, with production totaling 4 million tonnes.

The Ministry highlights a significant increase in grain yields, reaching 5.47 tonnes per hectare, setting a new record for Ukraine and surpassing the previous peak in 2021 at 5.36 tonnes per hectare.

This notable achievement prompted a revision of this year’s crop production volume, specifically elevating the forecast for corn production from 28.5 million tonnes to over 30 million tonnes, as emphasized in the ministry’s announcement.

Additionally, the ministry pointed out that the combined area of spring and winter grains this year decreased by 980 thousand hectares compared to the previous year, totalling 10.895 million hectares.
