EU Expands Tariff Quotas

Under the tariff quota scheme (TRQ), the European Union (EU) granted approval in February of this year for the importation of 77.83 thousand tons of wheat and 1.21 thousand tons of barley from Ukraine, as reported by Кurkul.com citing Reuters.

According to the report, an additional 852.57 thousand tons of Ukrainian wheat can be supplied to the EU until the end of 2022 as part of a duty-free quota of 1 million tons. This comes after the EU had already issued an import permit for 69.6 thousand tons in January.

The statement specifies that the EU has also sanctioned the import of 1.21 thousand tons of Ukrainian barley for February, following the allowance of 19.57 thousand tons for this month. The annual quota for Ukrainian barley imports to the EU is set at 329.22 thousand tons out of a total volume of 350 thousand tons.

The report underscores that, akin to January, corn imports to the EU were excluded from the quotas for both Ukrainian goods and those from other countries, according to the publication’s findings.
